Mr. Riley has extensive experience in the structural engineering design and project management of a variety of building types and construction projects including nationwide retail “chain” stores and restaurants; single and multi family wood frame residential developments; hillside construction including concrete piles, grade beams, retaining walls, and post tension concrete slabs; foundation underpinning of distressed structures using grade beams, friction piles, and helical foundation piers (i.e. “Chance Foundation Anchors”); wood frame commercial; restoration of fire damaged structures, medium rise steel frame commercial; the functional and structural design of concrete parking structures; government and aerospace facilities; amusement park rides; seismic retrofitting of pre-World War II residences, concrete tilt-ups, and un-reinforced masonry buildings; and preservation of historic structures.
Mr. Riley has also served as a forensic structural engineer consulting to California Fairplan Association, State Farm, Farmers, Traveler’s, The Chubb Group, and USAA Insurance Companies. In addition to this, he has performed approximately 500 building inspections and evaluations for real estate transactions and has served as an expert witness in construction defect, earthquake damage, and other property loss claims. He has also taught structural engineering at El Camino College in Torrance , California.
